First off...

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEARS

...now give me some money!!

Secondly...

I updated my photo album with two new albums for 2K4. Despite how busy I am (and believe me I am, but you can pretty much tell that from my lack of updates), I still, and as a priority, do my darnest to have fun! So, last weekend, not only did I work on Saturday, I still manage to go bowling and go snowshoeing up in the mountains. Here, check out the photos:

Bowling Madness: bowling with a bunch of the many medical professionals I know, which includes an occupational therapist, a couple of nurses, an oral hygenist and a whole mess of pharmacists. It was a fun nite in which, near the beginning, I bowled one of my best games EVER. My score was like double and triple everyone elses, hitting strikes and spares all over the place with my unique delivery (I practically threw the bowling ball half way down the lane). But in the end, I still lost that game by a couple of points (this one guy had like 5 strikes in a row at the end) and then bowled one of my worst games afterwards.

Nature 2: The Revenge!: this will be my second album filled with beautiful scenery of the Northwest, this time in snow, starting off with my snowshoeing trip to Steven's last Sunday. First off, snowshoeing is HARD...you'll get really tired very quickly climbin up normal hilly trails, but in the snow. But we had fun trying to keep up with one another and the occasional snowball fight. When we got to the top of our trail, we saw a whole bunch of people of there already, resting and building a couple of igloos. It was really cool. We, ourselves, ended up building a snowman, took some pics and then headed back down. And btw, going down was the best part of snowshoeing, not cuz that was the main reason why you strap on snowshoe (going down without them would be pretty dangerous), but it was more fun to just "slide" down. Oh, the childhood memories it brought back.

And Finally...

There's one thing I forgot to include in my year in review post. About in December, I saw something on television that REALLY summed up the whole year for me and actually made me come to the conclusion that this last year was the Year of Drama. It was an episode of South Park, one of the new ones, where Stan breaks up with Wendy and Butter's too gets his heart broken. Anyway, Stan joins a Goth group when he runs into Butters who just broke up with his "love". Its what Butter sez at the end that REALLY hits me and put everything in perspective. It was probably the deepest thing I've heard in a long time...check out the conversation they had in the episode:

Stan (with Goth Kids): What's the matter with you?
Butters (crying in the rain): Well....my girlfriend broke up with me.
Goth Girl: Did she step on your heart with stelletto shoes?
Butters: Yeah...it sure does hurt.
Goth Boy I: Dats cool. I guess you can join with us if you like.
Goth Boy II: Yeah. We are going to go to the graveyard and write poems about how pointless life is...
Butters: Well, no thanks. I love life.
Stan: Huh?! But you just got dump.
Butters: Well..oh yeah, and I am sad. But at the same time I am really happy that something can make me feel that sad. Its like it makes me feel alive, y'know. Makes me feel human. The only way I could feel this sad now if that I felt something really good before. So I have to take the bad with the good. So I guess what I am feeling is like a beautiful sadness...well, I guess that sounds stupid.
Goth Boy: Yeah...
Stan: No, no...Butters, that doesn't sound stupid at all.
Butters: Well, thanks for offering to let me be in your click...but to be honest, I rather be a crying little pussy than a faggoty goth kid. Well see ya Stan...

Year in Review 2003: Year of Drama

Sorry...this was supposed be posted earlier this year around new years but...well...you know...oh...just read it...

Back in High School, I use to look back at the last year and I actually named that year. Though I can't remember all the names of my past years, they were labeled as "The Year I Met Powerful People" or "The Year of Change" or "The Year of New Beginnings" or "Year of Emotions". For 2003, I have decided to label it as "The Year of Drama."

Never before have "drama" in my life and, most importantly, in my friend's life have affected me so much. I have seen relationships that have ended, because of money. I have seen very important people pass away. And I have seen too many hearts broken this year. And all of these events deeply moved me, because it happened to very good people who did not deserve it. And it happened to my friends.

But I myself experienced some personal drama too, that really affected everything I did last year. I almost lost some really close friends, I did lose a great relationship over a stupid misunderstanding, and I almost thought I was going to lose my job. These events, along with some of my friends were enough to stress me out and even affected my health. (dont worry, it was mostly stress related heartburn).

But at the same time, when most people think "drama", they mostly think of it negatively. Of course, this year was also filled with the good" drama too. I had friends who announced they were having a baby, finally moving out of their parents, new jobs, leaving jobs to go back to school, and even a few marriage proposals. All of which has brought me as much joy they recieved

On a personal level, there were some great moments. Like finding out that I wasn't going to lose my job and in fact, finding out what I do DO best. And this was the year I had friends come and visit me here in the Northwest, including Danny and Akane and Jon and Denny and Mario and Kydd and even my family. But the most important "dramas" I had experience this year was the amount of friends I have made just this year as well as recieving some really close friends here in Seattle. And these friends here make a world a differences. It was never a dull moment where I am practically doing something every weekend (something I couldn't say the year before). I can finally say I have a life here and I am also having a lot of fun.

Anyways, I thought it be fun to go back to last years new year resolution I had made to see if I actually followed thru:

1. Head to the gym more often
--YES! I did do that. Not as much as I would like to but much more than I ever did. In fact, I can also say that I lost close to 25 lbs last year! Unfortunately, I gained back 10 lbs during my mom's visit and her cooking. Damn you mommy!

2. Be less irriable at work
--since moving into a new project, I have definately been a nicer person. Because I am enjoying the project I am on, the team I work with and the fact that I actually am doing stuff that I do best of this project and people are noticing. But the stress of finishing the game is coming, and I see mr. evil wing coming back real soon.

3. Keep in touch with friends outside of Seattle better
--once again, I blame work because I work late and I dont come home til its late and I dont really go online afterwork or even want to call anyone after a tiring day at work. But this time I also blame the fact I also have a life here and I always been going out. I mean, I remember how easy it was to keep touch with everyone while I was in San Diego but the truth is I did nothing but stay home after work which made it easy to keep in touch with everyone else cuz I had no one else. This is still something I need to work on because I truely do care about all my friends all over.

4. Be more social
--this I definately improved and I have tons of new friends to show for it. Its not perfect my interpersonal social skill but it getting better with practice.

5. Learn to drive in Seattle
--I definately am much more confidently in driving everywhere in Seattle and beyond. But I still am not 100%. Still need to learn to drive better in severe conditions and I still need to learn to parallel park. Baby steps...

6. Travel more
--I didn't go to Toronto this year but I did get to go to LA and San Francisco and Vancouver but most importantly, I finally got to visit Japan!! But this more traveling bit was really pushed strongly as I can honestly say that I have AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH have left Seattle for at least a day, even if its to Vancouver. This is one habit I would like to continue.

7. Drink more
--I have been drinking more, in fact can name a couple of drunken states I have been. But not over doing it. No AA meetings for me in the near future.

8. Blog more and more meaningful blogs
--blog more? well...not really. I mean, I am writing them 2 weeks at a time now! And we can forget about this more meaningful blogs...yeah right!! I blame work and having a life again. I think after my project is done after feb and my blogging should be more regular.

9. Live life to the fullest
--its only going to get better...

Stay tune for this years resolutions...

Snow Day

Today, for the first time in my life...work was cancelled for me because of the weather. A snowstorm hit Western Washington and Oregon, completing blanketing it in white snow.

Now, honestly, it really isn't that much snow. I have seen worst in Toronto. I remember times when I had to walk in WAIST HIGH SNOW (remember, I was a kid then) to go to school, because they NEVER EVER CANCELLED SCHOOL because of snow.

And here, a little bit of snow pretty much shuts down the whole city (freeways to the main parts of city was actually closed!!). Well...Washington doesn't really get snow so they dont have the equipment to handle the snow, which is fine for me...cause I didn't have to go to work which is all good! :)

Actually, its funny. We knew a snowstorm was coming the night before I am was *hoping* work would be cancelled. So I got up early only to be disappointed to see it wasn't too bad at all. I almost was going to go to work only to hear from the news that it would be a bad idea to drive at all. Despite the fact I lived 10 minutes away from work, I told myself not to go. This turned out to be a good idea because the snow kept going all moring and afternoon and eventually became a problem, with story of ppl actually being stuck at work now! HAHA!

Anyways, spent the day actually going to a friend's house for lunch (my friend offer to drive). An extra vacation day for one and all.

The Most Dangerous Trip I Never Took

So, this Saturday I was to drive up to Vancouver and spend it with Denny for one last night outting of partying, before he was to return back to America. And as planned, I started to drive up to Vancouver that afternoon.

About half way to Vancouver, I stopped off at the exit 230 off the 5 Freeway to pick up some Krispy Kreme donuts for Denny's relative. The area had some snow and looked very white. Anyways, upon turning into the store, my car started to skid in the snow and ice I was driving on into the oncoming lanes and I even nearly hit another car!! In fact, if there was a car in that turning lane, I would have certainly be in somekind of accident.

I was really upset with myself after that. Basically, I felt like I was almost in accident just for some stupid donuts! But then I realized this was a blessing in disguise. You have to understand, this was the FIRST TIME EVER I have ever driven in snow and ice (I learnt to drive in sunny southern california) and this was a rude awakening call for me that showed me how it REALLY is to drive in snow and ice!! Because after that, I drove really carefully back onto the freeway, which is good cause of what came after.

So, driving back up to Vancouver and the roads got more covered with snow and more dangerously icy. So much so, everyone on the road was driving at 30 miles/hour and I was starting to see at least one car on the side of the road and in the ditch per mile. This was starting to scare the shit out of me, mainly because even driving straight and slow, I sometimes still lost control of the car once in awhile. Then I realized, based on the fact that I was driving 30 miles/hour, it was going to take another 2 hours to get to Vancouver...2 hours of driving like this. And imagine if I did make it to Vancouver, how bad it would be to DRIVE BACK!!

Well, after driving for about 10 more miles, I decided to turn around, and drive back to Seattle. This was not worth a possible car in the ditch just to have fun in Vancouver. I called Denny and my other friends in Vancouver, and though they were all disappointed, they understood. It took me another hour just to reach "clear roads" into Seattle.

In retrospect, I realized how important that near accident at Krispy Kreme was. If I hadn't gone, I would have been driving regularly up to Vancouver, not realized how bad ice is and would have possible got into a worst accident. Wow.

Anyways, because I was coming back to Seattle, I now had to find something else to do Saturday nite. It wasn't much, but I manage to go out dancing with a bunch of nurses and female oral hygenists instead...Its no nite with Denny, but it would have to do ;) Actually, we really had a good time and my friend said that this wouldn't have happened at all if I didn't cancel my trip to Vancouver. It was fate, I tell you!

And the worst thing out of this whole experience? A whole case of Krispy Kreme in my fridge in which I hardly eat.

And speaking of my car and cold weather...

My Car is a Piece of Crap in the Cold

First off, Seattle is FOOKIN' COLD now...like TORONTO COLD (minus the snow, though we do have a small bit). And this is the first time I had to experience this type of cold here. And so has my car. So, besides the whole "skidding" at Krispy Kreme incident, the cold has done some other interesting things to my car. Observe...

--the keyhole on my drive side door is usually unopenned-able now, dued to the cold. Usually after I drive around for awhile, its fine but every morning (or late at night), I can never open my door unless I open it from the passenger side door. Very annoying...

--last night, I had to drive late at night to pick up someone at the airport. I leave my apartment complex pretty quickly before realized how cold my car was and that the windows were very fogged up. So I decide to pull over on the side of the road, turn my emergency blinkers on and wait for my car to warm up. So after 5 minutes, I decide to start moving again. My car was still cold but warm enough that my windows were fine. Anyways, I was driving a bit only to realized my emergency blinker was still going. Turns out, my car was still too cold and the button for the emergency blinker WAS STUCK!!! AGRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I couldn't drive on the freeway with it on, so I had to wait for another 15 minutes before it was unstuck from the cold!!

I need a new car!!

Cheapest and Laziest New Years EVER!!

First off, besides going out on Monday, New Years Eve and just now, going to a surprise Bday dinner for a friend on a Friday nite, this whole week I did nothing but stay home, watch DVD movies, catch up on Tivo and SLEEP!! (oddly enough, didn't play a single video game either!) Lots of sleeping...it was a lot of recovery time for the hectic month I had and also for "stocking up" on sleep and relaxation for the upcoming 2 months of crunch (we are trying to finish our game by Feb). Months of Hell, I come for you!!

For New Years, as stated before, was only planned like hours before I set out. And as it turns out, didn't really cost me too much to celebrate. While some of my other friend's shelled out big bucks to go to some private party at some fancy nite club, I had one of the most fun yet inexpensive nites out on the town, AND for New Years too. Not a bad way to spend my first New Years in Seattle.

First thing I did was I headed over to Priscilla's house for some yummy Hot Pot dinner, where I learn the "proper way" to do hot pot is to use a RAW egg as your sauce for the cooked meat(!). I have done a lot of hot pot but this is the first time I have ever used a raw egg and though I was very skeptically and worried about getting sick, I drove head first into it. Those it still taste the same as if I didn't use the raw egg (I tend to use a lot of soy sauce too so that probably drown the taste).

And oh yeah, did I mention I didn't have to even pay for this meal. I mean, I offer to pitch in for some of the groceries, but they wouldn't accept it. And we weren't even going to the same parties for New Years either!! Just a nice jester towards friends.

After being fed and watching Bubble Boy, Justin and myself headed to downtown Seattle, towards the Space Needle (where the fireworks / countdown was to be) and to meet our other friends who was eating at the Liquid Lounge at EMP (Experience Music Project...that wierd ass music museum). From there, we went upstairs to listen to a bunch of white guys playing hip hop (called themselves Optimus Rhyme and the 100th Monkey) and for drinks and to chill before the actually fireworks at midnight.

Did I mention we paid NO COVER to get into this bar and we even got all our drinks for FREE!! Our organizer, Sylvia, from South Africa, called up Liquid Lounge to find out what was happening there only to realized that the manager on the other end recognized her accent and revealed he too was from South Africa. And he invited her and all her friends for a free round of drinks!

Around 11:45pm, we went outside and headed towards the Space Needle which was only around the corner. And yet, despite how late we left, we got REALLY close and an awesome view to the Space Needle for the final countdown and firework display. And the crowd was REALLY into it too. There was a level of excitment that was just incredible. It was a lot of fun, despite being close enough to actually have some of the ash go into your eyes.

Later that nite, we head to this local hotel (called Sorento) where we had a small desert and coffee before calling it a night. Sure, we paid for that, but that was a small price compared to amount fun we had. 2004...I hope this is only a sample of the good things to come.

Anyways...its like 3am in the morning now and I am to drive up to Vancouver tomorrow to meet up with Denny one last time and take advantage of Vancouver's 4 am last call. One last hoorah before I return to my hectic work life. Its going to be fun...
