More Packing, Faux Lunch and Computer Parts

Today...more packing. Today...trying to pack as much stuff out of my room into boxes. Today...hard part was sorting thru all my bills.

Today...lunch with McGrath down in North Park (30 minute drive). Today...lunch cancelled dued to family crisis as I am almost at his place. Today...only saw McGrath for a couple of minutes before he had to go.

Today...lunch by myself in Clairemont Mesa. Today...went to Fry's Electronics since I was down there. Today...spent $250 and bought a new hard drive and firewire/USB 2 kit for my computer for no real good reason. Today...roommate help me install new parts in to my computer and also gave me his old GeForce3 card for free. Today...happy.

Packing and Margaret Cho

On Monday, I spent a good part of the day start packing my goods. Since I wasn't going anywhere, I decided to bring my car to the shop for a check up and to fix my smelling AC. They couldn't find anything wrong with the AC but found my rear struts leaking so that had to be replaced. There goes $400 bucks!

Anyways, packing. Yes...a lot to pack. Today, I call it Media day, where I decided to pack up all my books and magazines and DVDs and CDs and games. BOY, do I have a lot of shit! That took me pretty much the whole day to do! All and all, I filled up a 12 boxes alone for that crap! And still haven't even hit half of all the crap I still have to pack!! EEK! I have a lot to do.

Later that night I was invited to attend a free screening of Margaret Cho's new stand up concert film, the Notorious C.H.O. courtesy of the SDAFF and being shown in Hillcrest (the only independent films theatre in town, sadly):

About Margaret Cho and her battle to entertain Americans about her bisexuality and her Korean mother. This was one rauchy and funny concert film of her stand up. I never knew she can talk like that. I use to never like her stand up, especially when she does her Korean mom bit, but she was very good in this movie and I even like her Korean mom bit (Gay Daddy...hilarious!). Its also a breath of fresh air to see an female comedian who can talk dirty like the boys, but not only that, because she is bisexual, she can "talk like the boys". Her bit about oral sex probably the funniest and most shocking thing of her show. I think this is also a great date film cause she can get so naughty. No wonder so many couples show up to her show.

Afterwards, I had to attend a small meeting about the Comic Con and who will be volunteering there. I will be helping out this Thursday and Friday. They also talked about a small dinner Saturday nite afterwards for my good bye. I was touched.

For this actual movie, I brought someone to come with me. I bought my friend Valerie, who just RECENTLY started working at Angel and I thought this would be a cool opportunity for her to meet some new ppl while here in SD. Plus she is huge flim fan and she even created an animation that was shown at last years SDAFF. What better ppl for her to meet! And judging from the long conversations she was having with other ppl, I think she had a great time.

Afterwards, we ate at some Corvette Cafe in which they treated you badly. Badly in a sense that they kept us waiting to be seated until our whole party was there (even though we were missing ONE PERSON!), that they throw straws and Bazooka gum at us, and that they actually complained about the amount of tip we gave! Though the Sloppy Joe I had was good and the Coke Float was awesome, I dont think I will be eating there ever again (and not cuz I am moving to Seattle).

Bowling, Curry House and Jolibees

This past weekend, I did a lot, mostly hanging out with ppl for the last time before I go.

On Saturday, I went bowling with Alex and Yaise, my 2 volunteering friends from SDAFF. Before I met them (in which they were late, as always), I was waiting for them at this arcade at Mission Valley. Boy, did I feel old there. There were all these "kids" everywhere hanging out. Man, did I look like that when I hanged out at the Yonge Street arcades back home? Hmmmm.

While I was waiting, I got to play Konami's new Blade of Honor game. Basically, this game is like Police 911 but with a motion detecting sword and no body motion capturing for dodging moves. You can only block opponent sword hits with your own. The game was kinda cool because by the way you swing "your sword", it created the same sword movement on screen. At first, you could just randomly swing your swords and kill everyone on the screen easily, but as the game progresses forward, you realized that you have swing it with some techinques to move on. It was pretty cool.

Anyways, met up with the girls, had dinner and then went to Mira Mesa Bowl for some comic bowling! It was a good time (in which I won all 3 games :) ) though they put us near the end of the alleys where the music wasn't very loud. Plus, the DJ sucked big time. We made tons of request for songs in which he didn't had! What kind of ALL Request Hip Hop RB Comic Bowling was this?!! Blah!

On Sunday, I went up to Orange to hang out with my friend Ben for the last time. Actually...not really. Looks like I am going to see him at Comic Con this week. Anyways, we didn't really do much but hang out.

We had lunch at Curry House (which is something I ALWAYS do with Ben when I see him...in fact, I dont think I have ever been to Curry House without him) and then we hit The Block in Orange shopping complex for the window shopping. We bought NOTHING!

We later drove around looking for an import game store in hopes of seeing some Super Mario Sunshine. We didn't see it :(

We then later had dinner at the Torrance Jolibee. I enjoyed my meal...he didn't...but he was right, the chicken wasn't that good.

The night of course ended with some Boba Tea. Of course!

Today was my last day at work. It was a sad day for me, because I have been here at Angel for close to 3.5 years and had made so many friends here and Angel was so familar to me now, it was like home. And now its time for me to go.

One of the coolest thing about Angel was they found out where I am going and they are TOTALLY cool about it. I am moving to Seattle to work for Nintendo and for political reasons, I couldn't tell them that. But one day, the president of the company went to see me after I announced my resignation. The man just looked at me and just KNEW I was moving to Nintendo! But we was really supportive of my move. He thought it would be the best place for me. It was almost as though if I went anywhere else, he would have been very disappointed with me. Wow! And I am leaving this ?!

So, I packed up my final remain stuff on my desk (the majority of my stuff was brought home weeks earlier, even before my resignation), returned all my keys, signed a few documents, and got my final paycheque (with a lot of vacation pay). I made my final rounds around the company, said my good byes, took a few snap shots and then I left the buidling forever.

I think the best goodbyes were from the president, who actually hugged me before I left, and from my producer, who spoke of the quote that is the headline of this blog entry. I thought it was funny :)

Its been a great life changing 3.5 years of my life. I will miss Angel.

Tea Shop 168

That night, I went out with a friend for dinner and then some Boba tea. We went to Tea Shop 168. The reason why I mention this, is cause this the SAME Tea Shop 168 from Toronto! Tea Shop 168 is the ONLY Boba tea shop that I know of that has hit MAINSTREAM areas of a city, mainly downtown Toronto. Most Boba Tea places are still found in the "asian areas" of cities but 168 is all over Toronto. And now they have inflitrated California.

I talked to the manager and she told me they have a whole bunch of 168 in LA and one in SF and one here in SD. Wow!

Btw. Tea Shop 168 makes the best Almond Milk Tea. It still does.

Lunch

Today (Thursday) I had my final company goodbye lunch. It took place at "That Pizza Place", where all employees, who leave on good terms, have their lunch at (past employee included Santee, Kahn and McGrath). We also have it there cuz its cheap and it can handle a huge amount of ppl. This was especially important because, not only was my final lunch there, so was a whole baseball team of retired men.

One side note. My original lunch date was supposed to be tomorrow (Friday), not today (Thursday). I had to change it dued to the short sightiness of my producer. He decided to buy Austin Powers 3 movie tickets for the whole team on Friday at noon. I wanted to see as much ppl as I can so I changed the date. Thx Jay.

Anyways, it was a good lunch. There was a good turn out (though thx to the last minute date change, there were a few I wish that were there that wasn't...damn you soccer!) and I got to sit down with everyone there and talk and hang out with them. I also got Marc to take pictures of the event. Maybe one day I will post it.

Dinner

That nite, I got to go out to dinner with my old friend, Meedo. For a nice change in things, she cooked dinner for me. Mmmmmmm....chicken katsu. I've always wanted a home cooked dinner from her and I got my chance that nite. And she can really cook. We ate and hanged out and caught up. I asked her if she wanted to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain with me before I left (since I have never been and this was something I had to do). She said she would get back to me. I hope she says yes.

Movie

After dinner, we decided to go watch a movie. We went to see a screen sneak peek screening of Austin Powers 3. I have to say, this was the biggest disappointment of the year for me:

About Austin Powers and his battle to stop Dr. Evil once again. Okay...first of all, I like to say I am a HUGE Mike Myers fan and a HUGE Austin Powers fan and a HUGE stupid movie fan. But I was sooooo disappointed with this movie, but not just minorly, MAJORLY!!! I thought there was absolutely no imagination or innovation in this movie, with a lot of its jokes being recycled (then even admit to it in the movie). In a word, I thought this movie was very LAME. Goldmember was not very funny and the bantering between Dr. Evil and Scott wasn't very good either. All the great secondary characters (like No. 2) were reduces to minor background characters and there was NO GREAT QUOTABLE QUOTES!!! What kind of Austin movie was this? Okay, the only thing that I thought was brillant and really funny was the beginning. That beginning was one of the great intros to ANY movie. I just wished the actual movie ended then.

Now, I was supposed to watch Austin the next afternoon with the team but after tonite, I couldn't stomach it a second time. The funny thing was the WHOLE TEAM that ended up watching it the next day LOVED THE MOVIE!!! I was TOTALLY bewildered by this! I guess I am getting too old to enjoy movies like this :(

Another Dental Appointment

Since my root canal was done, it was time to prepare for the crown that will cover that bad tooth. Another trip to see the dentist. This time, it wasn't too bad, since I had Nitrous again, but this dentist (this is my regular one) charges for use AND, I was pretty much in the dentist chair for like 2 hours! It was more annoying than painful.

Anyways, all this procedure cost me about $600 bucks WITH INSURANCE!! But its not over yet! They just made an impression of my teeth. Now they sent that off to the lab to have the crown made. Normally this would take 2 weeks to do, but since I was leaving in 2 weeks, it need to be done in 1. I will be back in one week.

Seaworld Sunday

--finally got to visit Seaworld here in SD before I leave. Though I have been here for 3 1/2 years, I have never been.
--went with my friends Lani and Junvi. These same girls were the two I went to Del Mar Fair with. Its cool to go with them cuz they are a lot of fun, plus Lani works at a radio station and gets us into places for free! Six Flags Magic Mountain, anyone?
--though we had free passes to Seaworld, most paid regular price (like $50 bucks) to get in, because at that price, you can get into the park for the rest of the year.
--we got to the park around 2pm. We didn't actually see the park until like 4pm dued to the fact we were all very hungery and some of us had to wait in line to get their photos taken for the year long pass.
--also, since Seaworld was owned by Anheuser-Bush, they gave out free beer sample to everyone. My friends decided to get wasted on that before seeing the park.
--our first stop was the kid's playground area (called the Happy Harbour) where we all decided to be kids and try to climb ropes. Everyone got exhausted from doing that and I rehurt my ingrown toe. Looks like another toe surgery for me :( (I already had two)
--next was the sea lion show called Clyde and Seamore: Fools with Tools. It was basically their version of Home Improvement with Sea Lions. The human performers were pretty funny and the sea lions did some really impressive scripted events that made them seem very smart and human like. But thoughout the show, I had to wonder what kind of cruel and unusual intense training they must have gone thru.
--next was Seaworld's version of Cirque de Soleil called Cirque de la mer. No animal performances here, just some really flexable humans. They had this really hilarious bit with an audience in which they stranded him on an island and then abused him in a floatin ball in the middle of water. They did some pretty bad stuff to him, but it was all good.
--while waiting for the Cirque de la mer show, he ate more food. We were pigs today.
--we next hit our first (and only) ride, the Shipwreak Rapids! Basically, one of those giant floating tube rides thru a river where you will get wet. I, of course, got the wettest amongst the group.
--it was getting dark and it was time watch the Shamu show at night. If you are at Seaworld, you HAVE to see the Shamu. Because it was nite, they had this special dance party version called Shamu's House of Douse. There was dancing in the stands and glowstick everywhere. Though the show was kind dark, the Shamus (there were more than one of them...actually Shamu is their LAST NAME) did some very impressive aerial manuevers. And it wasn't called the House of Douse for nothing. If you were sitting low enough, you were going to GET WET. We sat close enough to not get wet but always had the threat to happen. It was a short show but a great one.
--during Shamu, we were eatting again. We couldn't stop ourselves/
--it was late at night and time for the fireworks. We found a prime location near the Pirates 4D show and watched it all.
--once the fireworks were over, the Pirates 4D show openned up. We were trying out what the 4th D was, but Steve got all techie geeky on us. The 4th D turns out to be feeling and touch. Air and vibration in the seats were used to simulate action on the screen. Plus, they used water on the audience too. Yes, you can get wet here.
--Pirates 4D, btw, was like Home Alone with pirates, staring Leslie Neisen and Eric Idle.
--it was now really late, almost closing (11pm), and we decided to hit the exhibits. We checked out the sharks and the penguins and the manatee. During this time, Lani and Steve started arguing about Polar Bears existing at Seaworld. Turns out they use to be here.
--before we left, I got to purchase my stuff shark puppet toy. I named him Sharkie. He will be in many pictures in the future.
--after Seaworld, we went to Denny and ate once again.

More Movies

Damn, I love watching movies...especially during the summer.

--Movie Review: Road to Perdition: 3.5 Denstars (out of 5)
About a young boy and his battle to deal with finding out that his father is a hit man. A really slow pacing father and son relationship movie with some action. The story is kinda cliche-ish but very compelling to watch thx to the performances of the actors. There were some very beautiful shots in this movie with no John Woo/Matrix shots. Imagine that in a gun movie! Nothing too special then that.

--Movie Review: Reign of Fire: 2.5 Denstars (out of 5)
About a one man and his battle against dragons that have taken over the earth in the near future. Though it was an okay movie, there was absolutely nothing memoriable about this movie. The skydiving scene was kinda cool and some of the humor was okay, but that's it. I wish I can remember what else to talk about this movie, especially I can't see why all the British ppl here at work didn't like it (something about their country having no heros or something like that). I think Denny said it best:

Tanks vs Dragons minus all the mythical dragon stuff I like. Minus tanks.

Worst Movie Ever

I thought Scooby Doo was bad...but nothing prepared me for:

--Movie Review: Eight Legged Freaks: 0.5 Denstars (out of 5)
DAMN! I don't even really want to talk about this film! IT WAS JUST PLAIN BAD!! NOTHING FUNNY! NOTHING SCARY!! NOTHING GROSS!! The spiders look really fake and the movie was just plain boring. And to top it off, they put this annoying nerdy kid who's "always right!'" AGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! David Arquette should not be allowed to act anymore!

A Very Busy Day

For some strange reason, today turned into a very busy day...busy as in doing a lots of things happening. Let's begin:

Root Canal in the Morning--follow up to that other emergency dental appointment, now with a specialists in root canals. I wasn't really worried about the actual root canal itself, just the agony of fact that I gag really easily in a dentist chair. I was not a pleasant patient. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. The dentist was going to put on some "laughing gas" to calm me down during the procedure. BOY, DID THAT WORK!! I was in LALA land, floating in my chair, my small little body. In fact they put too much nitrous in me that they had to turn it down. And before I knew it, it was all over. The easiest root canal I have ever had. All doctors should have some "laughing gas" on hand.

Dental Appointment 3.0--after the root canal I had to make another appointment with my original dentist to get a crown for the root canaled tooth. This was not as simple as it sounds as I need to get it ASAP because of the fact I was moving to my new job. So, I had to arrange for immediate processing of the crown (first they have to size and fit me, then to a lab where it will be done in 2 weeks. It can't be done in 2 weeks...has to be done in ONE!!). which will also be very expensive! Next appointment...Tuesday morning...with no "laughing gas" :(

Auto Insurance and Glass Coverage--had to call my auto insurance company to make sure I had coverage on someone else driving my car. I was checking for a friend who was going to drive up with me TO SEATTLE (the truth is slowlying coming out...more on this later). She will have coverage. Whew! While still on the phone, I thought I ask them about any glass coverage I have and fixing minor nicks in my windshield. I had to small crack on my front windshield since I bought my car a year ago and wanted to finally fix it on them. Immediately, they filed this claimed and sent a guy out early in the afternoon to fix my window right at my work's parking lot. Whoa!

Plane Ticket--as I said, I have a friend willing to come drive up with me to Seattle when I move. She is my friend Andrea and she's from Toronto!!! (actually London, ON). Anyways, she always wanted to come a visit me here, since she has these vacation days, but we always missed our window of opportunity. Now here's our chance, as I asked her if she wanted to drive up all the way to Seattle! But she'll be meeting me half way. So, get this...she will be flying to San Francisco and meeting me there on a Friday. We will spend a couple of days partying up in SF with my friends, before we drive up to Portland on Sunday. We should get to Seattle on Monday, where we'll spend Tuesday enjoying Seattle together before she flys back to Toronto, FROM SEATTLE on Wednesday. And, oh yeah, I officially start work Thursday!!!

Anyways, I was helping her buy her plane ticket for this trip. Now, you would think getting 2 one way tickets (Toronto to SF, Seattle to Toronto) would be way more expensiver, but actually, it was cheaper than a round trip to say Toronto to SF, with one one way ticket from Seattle to SF. Actually, it was actually cheaper than getting just the round tripper! Actually, it was EVEN cheaper today, then when we were looking at it 2 days early! 100 bucks cheaper! wow!

Singing Telegram--the producer on the team that am currrently working on, was not at work today. He decided to stay home and work. So, the team decided it would be funny to get him a singing telegram. So, we all pitched in for a guy in a Gorilla suit, in which we named the "Build Monkey" and have him sing *Nsync songs to him. Though, none of us were there the witness it, a lady who worked there told us he was in stitches and his son was there too and he enjoyed very much. Its also on tape so tomorrow we'll get to see it.

Actual Work--dont forget, I still have to do real work today, since I am still working. In fact, I am still at work (its like 9:50pm here). Just a lot of tunning vehicles and testing races. Oh hum.

Thursday Nite Plans--because I am still working, I had to cancel plans to go out clubbing with Richie tonite at Canes at Mission Beach. That and the fact that even when I did finish, I still had to drive home, change, and then drive down to SD, which would be like an hour for me...then party...then drive back home. Too much man. Instead, I will be catching a 10:15pm showing of Eight Legged Freak, right NOW! I will tell ya how it goes later...

Jolibee's in SD

A couple of days ago, I FINALLY got to check out the Jolibee fast food restaurant in San Diego (National City).

Jolibee's is a Philipino fast food joint and I went with my Philino friend Ryan. He's heard of this place but has never been.

We both ordered the Chicken Joy with rice but I also forced Ryan to have a hamburger as well. He had too, because it had the "secret Asian spices." Needless to say, we both loved the burgers. Couldn't put our fingers on it but it tasted like some "mom would have made." (once again, "secret Asian spices").

We finished our meal with a Pearl Cooler (Boba smoothie of some sort...it wasn't really that good). I had Strawberry, while Ryan had Uba (some Philipino root). Ryan also took a menu before we left, to impress his mom.

I Have Created a Boba Monster!

I recently introduced the team I work with at work to Bubble/Boba Tea. There is small little shop that sells it near work, and I bought some for a few of my co workers to try.

Now, the whole team is addicted to it and get it whenever they can. And they'll try ANYTHING that that place offers.

I just find it funny that its gotten as far as the team now sends our GAPA (Game Analyst Production Assistant, basically our resident lackey) to go pick up some during the middle of the work day! Wow!

THE Day

Today, after 3 and half years here in San Diego, I have finally resigned as Game Designer at Angel Studios.

This was something that a lot of my friends have been waiting for me to do and after weeks of waiting, it finally went down today! Woohoo! It has finally begun.

And yes I do have a new job ready for me but I will be leaving San Diego for that.

I can't say where i am going (though most of you know) in this blog because I cannot let the company know where I am going, and there are a few ppl from work who read this site (HELLO JAY WOODWARD!).

I am still required to do 2 more weeks here at the company and after that, I can then move myself and start at my new position at my new company in my new city. So, I will still be in town til early August.

The saddest thing will be all the good byes I have to say to all my friends I have made here. It will be sad to leave those I met from SD, Orange, LA and even SF (no more 8 hour trips). But I already have ppl planning final farewell events for me, including dinner, karaoke, clubbing and SeaWorld! And I will be going to SF and spending a couple of days there before I move to my new place. So, it will be all good.

I can't wait to start. I have been waiting for awhile for this and this change will do me so good.

A Final Farewell for a Friend

Tonite I got to pay my final respect and tribute to Chris Meland. His funeral was only open to immediate family and friends, so to allow some of his co workers to say good bye, a bonfire was to be held in his name at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Just the way he would have liked it.

It wasn't a somber occasion, but more of a happier one, remembering all the good times with Chris. Chris would often come down to this beach just to have lunch with a friend or two. I remember one time he took me and George Davis to "In N Out Burgers" for take out and then drove down to the beach to eat it. I only remember ever doing this only once with Chris but I was happy as it made me feel like "part of his gang" and friend and he had enough respect for me to take me out. And all we did was talk shit about work and some of the idiots there. Good times, it was.

We ended up not having a bonfire as we did not reserve a firepit in time to do so. Instead, we spend time together staring at the sun setting. We wrote his name in the sand (along with a great cariture of him) and watched the tides wash it away.

For the grand finale, we had a Barbie doll (in which we all signed) strapped to a rocket and launched straight into the nite air with flaming tail, do a loopy loop twisted before dropping into the tides. It was quite an amazing feat to watch. A final twisted tribute to our twisted friend, Chris, just the way he would have liked it.

One last thing that was said about Chris that put an smile on my face:

He will always be known as the guy who can do a perfect Alec Guiness' Ben Kenobi and the nasty things he made him say.

Chris, you will be missed.

Monday

Just wanted to say Monday.

Toothache

For the last couple days, I have had these MAJOR toothaches which are completely random when it would attack me. I been taking Advil and such and that seem to help, but still, when it hits, it REALLY HURTS. It has something to do with that chipped tooth I got a month ago, but for some strange reason, not only did that tooth hurt, but so did the teeth around it, even the one directly below it on my lower jaw. It was really wierd and painful. Time to see a dentist.

I was lucky to get an appointment the same day I made it with this new dentist that was highly recommended by everyone at work. Now I haven't been to a dentist in ages. And I know why. I hate them. And I hate having stuff shoved in my month. I was very proned to gagging and this was very evident during a simple x-ray scan.

So, I was going for x-rays only and after they took them, I needed to wait around for them to develop them and decide what to do next. After about a 30 minute wait, I learnt that my toothache was pretty serious. That chip in my tooth exposed the centre of the my tooth and was now infected. So much so, that I HAD to get a ROOT CANAL RIGHT THERE AND NOW!!! Yikes! But it was even worst. Even though he performed a form of a root canal on my tooth, he only fixed it temporary as he can now only refer me to a specialist that will finish the root canal. And I had to see this specialist soon too. And after that, I can come back to the dentist and he'll have to put a crown on that tooth to finish the procedure.

All this is very mind boggling for me. Not only for the pain of gagging during the procedure and the soreness afterwards, but also the cost. Though my health insurance will cover most of the cost of the procedure, it will still cost me around hundreds of dollars just to fixed this one tooth! Yeah, healthcare sucks here!

I will tell you how it goes. I need to make the appointment tomorrow.

Movie Weekend

For some reason, I manage to watch (so far) the BEST movie of this summer and the WORST movie of this summer (I would say so far, but its really hard to beat this movie) during this weekend. Here are the reviews:

--Movie Review: Lilo and Stitch: 4.5 Denstars (out of 5)
About a young Hawaiian girl and her newfound alien "friend" and their battle to save their "family". This, by far, was one of the best Disney animated films in a long time. This movie had sooo much heart and sooo much emotion, there were times I actually choked up a bit (seriously). One of the first Disney films I have seen that dealt with REAL family issues as well as being violent too (violent meaning violences on the screen that CAN BE reproduced by a kid). Lilo was incredible cute but also, so real and geniune. She was a real little girl with real issues. Stitch was adorable, so much so, that I want a stuff toy of him. And you're right Denny, Lilo's sis is kinda hot too. My only complaint is the predictable battle at the end (not only predictable but nothing spectacular or good). This movie really didn't it, its drama was more than enough.

About a group of kids and their dumb dog and their battle to solve yet another lame mystery. I have to admit, this was a great attempt of capturing the cartoon into an live action film. But the movie was just so unfunny and boring. I really wanted to like this movie in the same way how much I liked those Brady Bunch movie where they made fun of themselves. But the movie just wasn't very funny. Matthew Lillard as Shaggy was VERY GOOD and convincing and Scooby...well, you forget that he's a CG mutt and ITS an actually character in the movie.

Ghetto Americana 4th of July

This year, for the 4th, I went down to my co worker's place in Ocean Beach for their annual BBQ and fireworks watching (I missed last year). There was eating and drinking and talking shit about work. It was even more fun since there were former employees at this bbq too.

We also had a blast watching Dirt and his megaphone start acosting ppl on the street. He was very good with the megaphone as he sounded like a cop on a megaphone. He gave out oral citations of walking too fast or biking too slow or having bad hair. Very funny stuff!

The actually fireworks watching was on the beach which was a couple blocks away. The beach filled with ppl and alcohol everywhere. The beach was also somewhat dark, lit only by amateur fireworks being shot all around the beach. You had to be alert to make sure you were walking in the path of someone's rocket. There were huge bonfires everywhere started by ppl, and kept going with "anything that burns." I saw someone uproot a tree and shove it into the fire! And they started these huge bonfires so they can start marshmellow fights. Basically, ppl would throw marshmellows THRU the bonfire in hopes of hitting someone on the other side with a flamming marshmellow. And then, when ppl ran out of marshmellow, they start throwing beer bottles filled with sand (?!). I have never been so scared in my life!

The fireworks were the typical flair. But I did get to see cool new smiley face fireworks. Never saw that before.

After the show, and after like an hour in traffic to try to get out the place, we ended up at this girl's place (one of the same 'net girls we met the night before) so we can end up at some bar to meet more "girls." We didn't end up going til 2 hours later, waiting for another friend. I was getting really tired (it was about midnite) and I had this horrible toothache. Anyways, we ended up at this gay bar. Woo! What a way to end the 4th! Surprisingly, there were a few girls there but not enough to keep our interest. We left soon after.

We were all dead tired. Happy 4th of July!

Internet Girls, Dive Bars, Cold Drinks and Warm Friends

So, that nite, the nite before the July the 4th weekend, I went with a couple of friends down to North Park (an area of SD) to meet some ppl at a local bar there. We actually to meet this one girl that my friend had met over the internet and wanted us to tag along, in case she was psycho, I guess. (Funny, he met other girls on the 'net and he always went by himself. Oh well.)

So, we drove down and we passed the place we were going to meet this chick. Oh shit. It was a dive bar we were meeting at.

The place was called LiveWire, with the slogan "Cold Drinks, Warm Friends." It was a small little bar with an AWESOME DJ spinning underground hip hop. He was really good.

We met up with this mysterious girl. She was actually really cool. We sat with her in the back table with another friend of her. We drank and talked the nite away.

Funny thing happened during our stay. My friend ended up talking to another girl who was there that he met earlier on the internet! She joined our table and then introduced other ppl (guys and girls) from the 'net as well. It became one big internet reunion of some sort. I ended just talking to this one girl who wasn't a part of the internet crowd. We laughed at them together while listen to DJ spin and scratch. Did I mention he was really good?

At the end of the night around 3 am, we ended at this diner for some food. I wanted to go to Denny's but the one girl with us sez this "Rutherford" place was better. Nope. Denny's was better.

Donnie Darko and Dried Squid

First, the movie review:

About a young boy named Donnie Darko and his battle against visions of imaginary giant rabbit friend named Frank. This is one trippy film starring the guy from Bubble Boy about time traveling. Sounds wierd, gets even more wierder. Hard to write anything more about this movie but I liked it. But I think most others won't. You really need to sit down and think about this movie once its done.

Okay, so before we went to see the movie, I had happen to be missing my openned pack of dried squid snacks. It was on the kitchen counter before we left to Blockbuster to rent the movie. I had a theory that Josh must have takened it and hid it from me cuz he though that the dried squid was disgusting and made my breath smell really bad! But he really denied everything and I believed him. But where can it be? Watching Donnie Darko, we were assuming it might have been "Frank."

Turns out it was the cat took it. He must have grabbed it while we were out and hid it one of the upstairs bathrooms! That cat is really smart and talented. It was trained to jump on anyone who walked passed the cat if he's on the kitchen counter!

Oh...I also got Dragon Warrior 3 for my GBC for like 10 bucks today. Happy times!
