San Fran Again
Okay...its official! I am going back to San Francisco, in 2 weeks (on my birthday, no less) for another weekend of fun with Denny and Jon. This time, I am going for Denny's little Dinner and a Hockey game (San Jose vs. Vancouver) as well as to try to catch a flick during the San Francisco Asian Film Festival. I am really looking forward to this...and this time, I will be flying up!
The other funny thing is, I will be back in the Bay Area (this time, San Jose) in another 4 weeks! I will be there for the Game Development Conference (GDC) for my company, attending seminars and checking out the newest technology in game making. Oooooo. This pretty much will put me coming to San Fran and the Bay Area for 3 every other weekends in a row, starting last weekend. This must be some kind of record.
On a side note, I was really pissed off on how my company handled my attendance to the GDC. At first, I was told I was going to go, and then I was told I wasn't. Then I had to fight to go and then I was told I was going, but not on the days that I requested. This makes it kinda pointless, cuz the whole reason I was going was the fact that I always ended up going on the shitty days (days with the fewest Game Design seminars) in the past, and this year they would make that up. Yeah right. Well... I should be greatful, since very few ppl are actually going this year. I better make the most of it.

Finding Forrester
I was watching our NEW DirecTV with my housemate when we flicked over to the movie "Finding Forrester" that was on. Now I saw this movie in the theatres, really liked it too, but when I saw it again, I kept thinking about this one scene that I thought was very funny. Okay...funny to me, its seems like. This one scene was basically the William Forrester character, played by Sean Connery watching Jeopardy. Sean Connery. Jeopardy! Am I the only one who finds this funny? I must have been the only person in the theatre laughing when I saw this.

San Fran: Day 1
To help tell my weekend, I will present it in classic Densetsu point form mode:
--got to San Fran around 10:15pm and met up with Realsuave. Would have gotten there sooner but traffic was bad on the 5.
--headed to the Mission area of San Fran to hit a couple of dive bars.
--went and met up with 2 of Realsuave's co workers, one of which just started work and is also Canadian! Yay!
--as a group of 4, we headed to the Skylard bar. We left as a goup of 9. We also watched a guy do "the robot" very badly to impress some girls.
--very "colorful" and friendly ppl make up the Mission area.
--we headed to another bar called Duvals (?) and then to Blondies. We couldn't get into Blondies cuz it was almost last call (around 1:30am in SF), so we just hanged outside, listening to the music and starting conversations with others outside.
--This including talkiing to the guy who doing the "the robot" at that first bar. He knew it was bad, cuz he was "eating pizza outside by himself."
--We then headed home.
San Fran: Day 2
--started day, eating breakfast/lunch at some Filipino restaurant. We usually go to this other place called Superstar to get our "Pinoy grub on" but Realsuave decided to take me to this place. The garlic rice here wasn't as good :(
--we then went to do some geek shopping, and went looking at Video games, Japanese toys, electronics, comic books and DVDs. Amazingly, I didn't purchase much at all (last time I went shopping with Realsuave, I sent over $400!).
--during our driving around town, we had a deep discussion about who should cut your hair. Our discussion can be sumed up in the following prioritized list by Realsuave :
Who should cut your hair
1. Gay men--because they cut hair the best
2. Straight women
3. Straight men
4. Gay women--because "lesbians can only cut mullets."
--for the record, I am being to see the gay men theory. I usually go to this local Supercuts for my haircut, in which is operated by a whole bunch of women. I always get my haircut by these women, except this one day in which my hair was cut by the lone male worker there. And he did a very good job.
--for a light dinner, we went to Jollibee, a Filipino fast food restaurant. Here, I usually get my "Chicken Joy" but I instead went after the "Amazing Ahola" burger with "secret Asian spices." Mmmmmmm....secret asian spices...*insert Homer Simpson's gargle*
--we later hit this housewarming party at a house that I have been to about 1 year before, hosted by the same couple (they lived in a downstair apartment, now they own the whole house). A very nice cozy little home in the West Portal area of SF. They had some wonderful appetizers to eat, but the main reason why we came were for their infamous SPAM sushi rolls. Those were damn good!
--we then went to Downtown SF to hit a niteclub called the Beer Cellar. A small little basement place with two dance floors. Good music with a great mixed crowd. It was a cool place.
--Highlight of the night: half naked girls wearing "painted" suits above the waist. For the record, yes, I did see nipple.

--not much to say, but went home back to SD.
--made a stop at Casa de Fruta, and picked up some cheap Californian baby pistanchios.
--amazed at the number of bees we killed on our windshields driving home. This is because, a lot of crops along the way have set up bee hives to help pollenate their crops. And these hives are set up directly next to the road.
--got into Oceanside about 6:30 pm.

The Gutton Bowl
Wow! Did anyone see this on Fox Thursday nite? I was trying to tape Family Guy when I got this instead. Its basically, the US food eating championship on TV. Groups of competitors square off against each other, on who can get the most of one item of food, which is reveal only at the beginning of the round (ala Iron Chef), in a certain amount of time (5 mins, I think). There was a egg eating contest, beef tongue, sticks of butter(!), and even bowls of Mayo! Yeah...it was pretty disgusting.
Now, I didn't really watched it. I had it on tape, so I thought I watch it out in fast forward mode instead. It was still pretty disgusting, but entertaining. As I was watching this, I could not get out of the back of my mind an article I had read in a old issue of Giant Robot about some skinny Japanese kid who was like the Hot Dog eating champion of the world. Anyways, about 4 round in of new competitors, that skinny Japanese kid was introduced. And yeah, he was very skinny (actually, there were a few skinny competitors who were eating champion...damn, I am jealous that they can so much and remain so thin!). And yeah, I actually decided to watch this round on normal speed.
Anyways, the food of competition was hot dogs (surprise, surprise) and not only did that skinny Japanese kid win first place, he TOTALLY CRUSHED HIS COMPETITION! He set a new world record of 31 hotdogs in the time limit, while second place guy ate a measely 15 hotdogs! It was just simply amazing to watch (and sicking too).
Anyways, the show was probably 2 hrs long...I only taped 1 hr...so, I missed the final competition with him. Oh well.

A So Cal Day
Today was just a beautiful day. It was very warm but very pleasant. I normally wear a light jacket whenever I go out but today, you really didn't need one.
For a day like this, some of my coworkers and I went to this awesome Hawaiian restaurant in Encinitias for lunch. What can be more perfect than eating some teriyaki beef and spareribs, outside in the sun, with some local kids blasting some cool islands tunes from their mini van. You couldn't ask for a more So Cal kind of day. This was why I moved here.
Tonite was also wonderful. These past nites here have been chilly, but tonite was just right. A cool warm San Diego nite. I will probably go out walking at 11pm tonite just to take advantage of it! Oh yeah, summer is here now!

Learning to Deal with Difficult People
On Wednesday, I didn't go to work. Instead, I had to attend an all day seminar on Communication in the Work Place, set up by my company. Hooray for paid non working days!
Basically, this seminar (which I think cost like 300 bucks a head) taught me things like:
--how to properly talk to important clients
--how to listen
--how to deal with difficult people
--how to deal with people based on personality types and generation
--how to diplomatically say No
--what colors to wear when meeting important clients
--how to shake hands properly etc
It was a very informative seminar. I had a lot of fun there and even though, it was for the work place, the things I learn can be used in everyday life.
Later that day, since I was in the San Diego area, I ended up going to dinner with my friend Jing Jing and Ted. We ate at this New York style deli in La Jolla. Its not a bad place, but it could never compare to the Carnegie Deli in Manhattan, or even the Montreal Deli back in the Tee dot Ohhhhhh.

Its almost half past midnite and I am finally finish what I am doing here at work! Yeah! I get to go home! Bad thing is tomorrow, I have to attend this all day seminar in San Diego in which I have to wake up early in the morning to get to...yikes!

Nacho Taco Burritos
For those who dont have access to great Mexican food, you dont know what you are missing. Living in San Diego, and so close to the Mexican border, I am blessed with so many great sit down, as well as fast food, AUTHENTIC Mexican food restaurant (and I aint talking about Taco Bell, but I still love Taco Bell) here.
And I already have a favorite. There's this great little fast food Mexican near my work called Nacho Taco Stand in San Marcos. Now, it doesn't really sound like a authentic mexican place but I just can't get enough of their Carne Asada burritos. This place by far makes the best I ever had. Not only is it sooooo meaty and tender, but its soooo juicy too. I just had it for dinner here at work (yes, I am still at work as we speak), and no matter how hard I try, I always make a mess because of all the juicy oozing out. Mmmmmmm....meat juices. *insert Homer Simpson gargle*
The only bad thing about this place is it closes at 9pm every nite, which is wierd cuz most Mexican fast food place are open really late. In fact, Mexican fast food places are the ONLY thing open late in this damn area (another story)! I always try to get some Nacho Taco Burritos when I can, but if not, I go across the street to the "train" place. Its almost as good...just not as juicy.

Post Simpsons in Toronto
Alright. After much hype, that episode finally aired last nite and I watched it. And yeah...I was kinda disappointed. The whole Toronto part was only 7 minutes near the end. But, nevertheless, it was a very funny 7 minutes. The best jokes were the "Curling for Dollars" bit, the Canadian Olympics Basketball bit and the "Wow, a whole American Dollar?! You want breakfast in the morning too?!" bit. Of course, the rest of the episode (the in Springfield part) was very funny as well.

On Sunday, one of my best buds from High School showed up at my doorstep. Abz, now living in LA, came down to visit me and boring San Diego. We didn't do too much, just really hanged out...showed him my work, went to lunch, went to Fries, went to Dave and Buster's and then went to dinner with some of my co workers.
Highlight of Night: Watching Abz lose $1 to the bartender cuz he didn't believe she can get a cork out of a empty wine bottle without breaking the bottle. A very cool trick!
Lowlight of Night: Finding out that one of my friends here at work is planning to leave. He already gave his 2 weeks notice but there "may" be a chance that the company will offer him something better to get him to stay.
Word of the Day: McSilver!

A Lazy Saturday
Cuz I got nothing planned today (since I was supposed to be in SF right now), I just decided to take it easy today and bum around. Did a lot of random errands, went to work and stole the Xbox from our area so I can test it at home. When I got home, I forgot that our DirecTV has been set up so now we have satelite television! Woohoo!
One great highpoint today was the fact I got a cool package in the mail from my best friend Dan. It basically consist of a crappy ass magazine (autographed by Dan), a crappy ass DVD (autographed by Dan) and an AWESOME Japanese book on Transformers! Its the BEST book I have ever seen on Transformers! Not only are there all these pics of all the toys, but some great artwork as well! THX A LOT DAN! YOU ROCK! But Dan, if you sent me all this now, I CAN'T WAIT to see what you are going to send me on my birthday (march 9th) ;)
Was going to go clubbin tonite at Bar Dynamite, but decided it be nicer to just chill at home. Plus I have to clean up the place for tomorrow. My old high school friend, Abz is coming up from LA to visit me and San Diego. This will mark the FIRST time someone from Toronto has ever come up to visit me.

A Cultured Night
Before I go off and tell ya what I did on this Friday nite, I should tell you about what should have happened instead. This weekend, leaving Friday afternoon, I was supposed to go and hang out in San Francisco, with my boyz, Denny and Jon. Unfortunately, that didn't fall thru as I had an emergency design doc revision dued the following week, and based on my schedule, it didn't seem like a good idea to miss a day of work (Monday is Presidents Day, which I will need to come in to help finish the doc). Sorry guys, I really wanted to come up...next time for sure. But, even before the SF plan, ORGINALLY, I was supposed to go to some post valentine day fashion and lingerie show at some niteclub in Gaslamp. But alas that was cancelled dued to some major drama between a friend and one of the girls in the show. Oh well...not going to either was major disappointment at that time.
Anyways, Friday nite started with trip to UCSD (University of California, San Diego) where there was an art gallery openning of Neon light student project exhibit. One of my friend was in a that class at did the showing, and though none of his work was displayed, it was cool nevertheless to check it out. It was a very small exhibit (really small) with some very imaginative works of scultured neon, though I thought the better ones were also the less artistically abstract ones.
After the exhibit, the night didn't take us far as we ended up still on campus, at a college pub. Called the Porter Pub, this placed SCREAMED College pub, with flags and witty signs and artwork plastered all over the walls, and a food menu that consisted of everything grilled, with cheese and served with a Ranch Sauce (everything we ordered, no matter what, came with Ranch!). While we were there, they openned up this dance floor where somekind of All Ages Gay and Lesbian Dance took over. It was all kids in there (as well as drag queens) dancing to Depeche Mode and NIN. It was like a high school dance all over again, and we were like the adult chaperons supervising the kids. Boy, did I feel old then :(
The night ended with all of us going to our friend's new apartment in La Jolla (a very nice place, even better was that her place was situated between the 2 showcast apartments of the complex so that she has NO NEIGHBOURS and can be as loud as she likes!) and watching Ghost World on DVD. A brilliant biting comedy based on the underground comic of the same name. There were some really witty scenes that really hit home. Highly recommended for all to check out! Its definately not your typical comic book movie (its NOT about superheroes in tights).
Before I go off and tell ya what I did on this Friday nite, I should tell you about what should have happened instead. This weekend, leaving Friday afternoon, I was supposed to go and hang out in San Francisco, with my boyz, Denny and Jon. Unfortunately, that didn't fall thru as I had an emergency design doc revision dued the following week, and based on my schedule, it didn't seem like a good idea to miss a day of work (Monday is Presidents Day, which I will need to come in to help finish the doc). Sorry guys, I really wanted to come up...next time for sure. But, even before the SF plan, ORGINALLY, I was supposed to go to some post valentine day fashion and lingerie show at some niteclub in Gaslamp. But alas that was cancelled dued to some major drama between a friend and one of the girls in the show. Oh well...not going to either was major disappointment at that time.
Anyways, Friday nite started with trip to UCSD (University of California, San Diego) where there was an art gallery openning of Neon light student project exhibit. One of my friend was in a that class at did the showing, and though none of his work was displayed, it was cool nevertheless to check it out. It was a very small exhibit (really small) with some very imaginative works of scultured neon, though I thought the better ones were also the less artistically abstract ones.
After the exhibit, the night didn't take us far as we ended up still on campus, at a college pub. More HTML fun
Thanx to complaints from DoodleGirl and Jules, I have switched over my counter stuff to the one from Sitemeter.com. This counter is actually better than the last because it keeps track of how many UNIQUE visitors I am getting and as well as all these wonderful stats about who is logging and where. Nifty big brother stuff.
Yeah...can you tell that work is slow today? :)

Vietnamese Coffee House
After an exhausting day of driving (Oceanside to Alhambra to Irvine and back home eventually) and dealing with one of my friend's car problems (imagine 4 guys trying to push and U turn a stalled car down a busy street), that nite we ended up going to a Vietnamese Coffee House in the Little Saigon area of Orange County.
Now I never been to one of these coffee houses and had no idea what to expect but basically imagine a really seedy, smokey (despite the no smoking in bars and restaurant law in Cali), neon lited Karaoke bar but with no Karaoke, instead just a blend of really bad Vietnamese Pop/Techno/Rap playing in the background. Of course, what makes these places "special" is the fact that all the waitesses that serve your drinks are beautiful, well endowned ladies all dressed in a bikini. There's no menu, no food, just a bunch of guys (though, our group brought in the ONLY clothed female in the place), sitting around playing Chinese Chess with ice coffee served to you by a very hot woman! This place makes Hooters seem like a family restaurant! Despite that fact that a simple ice coffee cost like 4 bucks, it still makes you wonder what else is keeping this place profitable (though I am sure this place gets very busy at times).
It was a very interesting nite....

Chinese New Year Saturday
Wow! A full day today!
Morning: My traditional pre-Chinese New Year Dim Sum with some of my friends. I think we all did a good job introducing our Producer Glen some new types of Dim Sum food, in which he liked and will order it the next time he does dim sum. Good food...good people.
Afternoon: Went to downtown SD, near the Gaslamp District to check out this small little Chinese New Year Faire they had. Performances, food and little trinket shops. I bought a some potted Lucky Bamboo. We then checked out the rest of Gaslamp, and Horton Plaza (huge confusing outdoor mall). After that we drove back up to North County (where we live) and ended going to Best Buy where my housemate bought a DirecTV dish like that. We then went home and I had a really nice nap. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Evening: Went and checked out Collateral Damage with Arnold Schwarzenegger. After seeing that, I then realized that Arnold can't do good movies no more, cuz he is no longer the BAD ASS he use to be, instead he is just the normal family man forced into EXTRAORDINARY situations. Blah! Very boring action movie. Couldn't wait to see it end!

Roots and the Olympics
Hey. Did anyone watch the Winter Olympics Openning ceremonies? I watched it a bit and one thing that I was looking for, was to see what the Canadian Team was wearing this year.
At the last winter games, the Canadian Team kinda shocked the world with a team uniform that broke the "mold" of traditional parkas, with something cool, fresh and hip. Designed by Roots, a clothing line from Canada (think the Canadian version of Abercrombie and Finch, but much more comfortable), the Canadian uniforms were traditional varsity "lettered" style jackets and cool backwards Kangol style caps. It was all the rage then and there were tons of stories of other athletics trading with the Canadians for their outfits.
So, for this year, it was interesting to see what Roots had in store for the world. Well, the Canadian outfits this year, were different and cool, but I thought they were only okay. The Canadians wore brown leather jackets with a new version cap, worn normally this time.
But, what is interesting, is not only did Roots clothed the Canadian team, but they also did the uniforms for the US and British teams! I guess they really created that great of an impact at the last Olympics games. Now, I didn't catch the British team, but I did see the US team, and I really dig their jackets (minus the hat).
Looks like Roots finally hit it big time!

Mad HTML Skillz
I would to give some more MAD PROPS to my friend Leila. Not only did she do the original layout for this page, she took the time and taught me s'more mad HTML skillz! You're the best boo :) And she taught me GOOD HTML, not that crappy ass Newspaperthief HTML (hey Dan, how ja like dem mad props!? jyeah! jyeah!).
And with my newfound HTML skillz, I was able to add a web counter (courtesy of DarkCounter.com) to the site, so I can keep track of how many ppl do check out this page. Oh yeah, its ON!

Day of Meetings
Today I had a big meeting with the "client" (the publisher of the new game I am designing) and it went fairly well. This is the second big meeting with them in 2 days. The first meeting went incredibly well, because it was "my" meeting...it was a design meeting...and I was able to "lay down the law" and tell them where I am coming from with this design. And they agreed...in fact, it was amazing how much they were on the same page as I. Bottomline, they really liked my concept and design and I am happy.
The second meeting, like I said went well, but I still had a tiny issue with it. Without going too detail into it (and giving away what I am working on), this was basically an art design concept meeting, in which I really dont have too much say in. There were some great new concept art for the character in the game, which everyone liked...except me. Something about it told me, though everyone in the room liked it, I didn't think it would appear as cool to our target market. Well, anyways...I was shot down, not cuz no one agreed with me, because I shouldn't be "debating" it in front of the client. Anyways, this issue is still on my plate but since we are so early in production, I will still have some say.

My First Post
Hello everyone! Welcome to my first ever webpage and this is my first every post to my blog. YAY!
I know a lot of ppl out there have been bugging me about my webpage, so here it is. It currently very limited but it will get better. The layout will be more functional as well as I am working on getting a my own URL name etc. I just wanted to get it out and start adding my journal into the page so y'all can read about my wonderful boring life. Double YAY!
